After 6 weeks I finally got to travel with a person again!
Munich
My aunt, Sarah joined me in Munich, Germany and we had a blast! She went through a whole situation where her luggage got lost, so we spent a lot of time shopping which I haven’t done much on this trip. We went to TK Maxx, which is the European version of TJ Maxx as well as Zara, H&M and some local stores. Munich is a gorgeous little city, and while we were not huge fans of the liver and potato dumplings, we had a great time going to cafes and enjoying the many pastries they had to offer. Of course, we visited the Haufbrau House for a beer and pretzel and we also went to the Dachau concentration camp memorial, which was very interesting and sobering. Overall we had a great time in Munich, and for our last day we took a little excursion.
Sound of Music Mountain
Werfen, Austria is located in the state of Salzburg and was only a 2 hour train ride from Munich. The town itself is not made for tourists as most restaurants didn’t even open until 5pm, but we were there for one sole reason, to see the meadow where Do-Re-Mi from the Sound of Music film was recorded. We hiked for about an hour up a very well marked path complete with beds and little displays themed around the movie. When we got to the top, the view was beautiful, but it was cloudy so we couldn’t see any mountains. That didn’t last long. Literally, before our eyes, the clouds disappeared, revealing the mountains. We sat there for about 2 hours just staring at the huge, snow-covered landmarks. There was also a 12th century castle that we hiked to, but it was closed until April, so we went back to the train station, bought some snacks, and called it a day. All together the trip lasted about 7 hours and every second was wonderful.
Overall
We had an amazing time exploring the two cities. They were very cute and quiet, and we loved trying to figure out what the German words actually meant 🙂
